Well done David and co. Christmas party was just as good as the racing. Top course, top atmosphere and you even got the weather right...

Just gotten into cross this year and enjoying it - however would like to see points awarded for riders further down the classifications. As it is - I am unlikely to get a top 20 in any race therefore won't score any points. It would be good to be a part of the league as I fully intend to compete in most of the remaining rounds this year therefore feel I (and other riders like me) should be able to gauge their performance against their peers over the course of the series.

It would be good if this is something that could be introduced next year.

Id like to raise the issue of the conduct/comments made by the Commissaire prior to the start of the Cyclo cross event at Mugdock on 24/10/2010 His remark about how he would 'block' riders who were on the path at the event start was unbecoming of an official. Really bad attitude there. Never come across such an officious approach at a cross race. Shame.

I would like to propose a change to the Scottish Cycling rules & regulations relating to Cyclo Cross. Page 98 little blue book 2011.
Current rule 18.8.1

The SCU shall recognise National Cyclo Cross Championships for individual seniors, juniors, youth A, youth u14 and youth under 12, veterans over 40, over 50 and over 60, and women.

Suggested amendment to:-

18.8.1

The SCU shall recognise National Cyclo Cross Championships for both male & female in the following individual catogories: Seniors, Juniors, Youth A, Youth B, Youth C, Youth D, Youth E , veterans over 40, over 50 and over 60.

Reasoning:
I believe it is important to celebrate the achievements of girls & women as well as celebrating the achievement of boys & men. This change will enable girls & women to recieve the same recognition for their achievements as the male competitors. It also enables Scottish Cycling to abide by the spirit of the Scotish Cycling & British Cycling equity Policies.

I appreciate that competitions for younger riders are often described as "a bit of fun" but put your self in the shoes of a young girl who watches boys of her age, standing on a podium being cheered or awarded title "Champion" or given medals but does not see the girls of her cohort awarded the same. Ask her if that feels like a "bit of fun". Ask her if that is fair.

The message we are giving younger girls is: "you dont matter", "We dont care about you", "we are not interested in you" That may not be what we say out loud to them, it may not be what we believe or be the message we intend they receive but it is the message they receive. Those are not messages that you send to a group of people you are trying to encourage, they are messages you send to a group of people you are trying to discourage. Scottish Cycling should be trying to encourage young girls to participate therefore I recommend the above rule change.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your proposal. We will look at this when we review the 2011 season and will discuss with SC & interested parties to see where we go from here in the New year. I'm assuming that SBC/WW would like to inform these discussions? Would be grateful if you could send on your rule amendment to SC in the meantime.

Following Keith Stocker's survey of riders and parents (a couple of years ago?) we made several changes and will continue to make changes as we (hopefully) continue to grow SCX. Not all clubs are as well placed as SBC/WW when it comes to Youth racing and it will require the support of SC to deliver further improvements.

One thing I'd like to make crystal clear - when SCX refer to U12 racing being for fun, we absolutely don't regard it just "a bit of fun" or that the efforts of our youngest racers "don't matter". I'm sure I'm not alone in being disappointed by these comments. Like virtually all of Scottish cycling, SCX relies on volunteers to organise races and oversee the series. We've already lost some long term organisers due to unfair criticism / actions from a tiny minority of parents, so please think carefully about the how your comments are interpreted by people who give up significant amounts of their free time for SCX and the enjoyment of others through cyclocross racing.

We'd appreciate it if you/Wallace Warriors would help us on this, as opposed to the current tone of your comments here and on the SBC website.

Thanks

Martin
